Forward Deployed Engineer, Compliance & Security (New Grad)
Mountain View, CA · On-site / Hybrid · Full-time
About Kaamel
Kaamel is a compliance, privacy, and data security firm built around the idea of Privacy Made Easy. We help AI, SaaS, and technology companies earn and keep certifications across SOC 2, ISO 27001/27701, ISO 42001, GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA. We also deliver security services, including virtual CISO (vCISO) and incident response (IR).
We’re not a traditional consultancy. We build our own platform and internal tools, and we use AI across our daily work to make compliance faster, more accurate, and less painful for clients.
The Role
As a Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE), you’ll embed with client teams to get them compliant and secure. You’ll also turn what you learn in the field into tools and automations that scale across every engagement.
Half your job is working directly with clients and auditors. The other half is building: AI workflows, internal tools, and platform improvements that remove repetitive work for our whole team. If you’ve ever done something manually twice and then scripted it, this role is for you.
What You’ll Do
In the field
- Embed with client engineering, security, and legal teams to scope, implement, and operate their compliance programs.
- Act as a technical contact for external auditors. You’ll answer evidence requests, explain system controls, and resolve sampling questions.
- Assess client cloud environments (AWS/GCP), identity systems, and logging against framework controls, and guide remediation.
- Support vCISO and incident response engagements with technical analysis and documentation.
Building
- Design and ship AI-powered workflows for evidence collection, control mapping, policy drafting, gap analysis, and audit-comment triage.
- Improve Kaamel’s internal tools and platform, based on the friction you see in real client work.
- Write scripts and integrations connecting compliance platforms (e.g. Drata, Vanta), cloud providers, and identity providers.
- Turn one-off client solutions into reusable templates, skills, and playbooks for the team.
What We’re Looking For
Required
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field. Law graduates with strong technical skills are also encouraged to apply.
- Hands-on experience using LLMs and AI tools (e.g. Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor) to build workflows or automate real tasks.
- Working proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar).
- Comfort on client calls: you can explain technical concepts clearly to both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
- A builder’s mindset: you notice inefficiency and fix it.
- Authorization to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
Strongly Preferred
- Professional working proficiency in Mandarin Chinese.
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP), IAM, logging, and access control.
- Exposure to a compliance or security framework: SOC 2, ISO 27001, GDPR, HIPAA, or CCPA.
- Experience with APIs, agent frameworks, or MCP-style tool integrations.
- Personal projects, hackathons, or internships showing you can ship end to end.
What You’ll Gain
- Startup environment — A small, fast-moving team where what you build gets used by colleagues and clients within days, not quarters.
- The FDE skill set — Both client-facing judgment and engineering execution, a combination that’s rare and valuable early in a career.
- AI-native work — AI is part of daily operations here, not a side experiment. You’ll learn what works in production by doing it.
- Real ownership — You’ll own tools and workflows end to end, from identifying the problem to shipping and iterating.
- Domain depth — You’ll build expertise in security and compliance, a field with lasting demand that grows with AI regulation (ISO 42001, EU AI Act).
- Direct access — You’ll work alongside the founders, and your input will shape both our product direction and our service delivery.
- Professional development — Mentorship, plus support for certifications such as Security+, AWS, CISA, and ISO Lead Implementer.
- Global perspective — A cross-border client base spanning the US, Europe, and Asia.
